Wednesday 3rd August - Evening - Dartmeet

Well the weather couldn't have been more different than this morning.  Whilst it was still very humid the cloud had come in and there was thick mist over the high moor.

We started from the honeypot of Dartmeet although at this time of day there was no one else about.  We followed the river upstream disturbing a Heron on the way - which is just visible in the picture.

Through some wet and boggy ground to the first set of stepping stonesa cross the East Dart river

To follow the path through the forest alongside the river

Next around the edge of Little Newtak Plantation up through a steep valley and over a wall with a very dodgy ladder and on to the open moor.....

...and into a the enclosed land for a short break

Back to the open moor and the fog and drizzle

By now the light was not adequate for any more photographs.  We continued south to the main road and then took the road towards Hexworthy before taking the green lane down to Week Ford and more stepping stones across the West Dart river - and now we had some serious rain.  Next to follow the river north through some very difficult ground under foot.  Suddenly Stella was down and stuck followed by Mike trying to help!  By now we all had torches on so this is the start of the long season of walks in the dark.  On to another wider set of steps across the river and finally back at the cars.

Walking tonight Stella, Mike, Jon and Bob (from New Zealand)
