Tuesday 22nd May High Willhays

A beautiful warm sunny day with a gentle breeze and ideal conditions for going up to the highest point on Dartmoor.  Roadworks on the military road meant we started from the car park just below Rowtor.

We followed the road round past Hart Tor (188) which is next to OP22.  From here...

..we took a direct route to East Mill Tor (189)

Looking to West Mill Tor from East Mill Tor.

We rejoined the military road and followed this to Dinger Tor (190).

From here a gentle uphill walk to High Willhays - passing a group of school children going the other way.

High Willhays (191) with Hampster Tor on the left and Yes Tor in the distance.

The highest point for 250 miles and...

...the perfect place for our picnic.

On to Hampster Tor (192) which is midway between High Willhays and Yes Tor...

...and just after this Yes Tor (193)...

...where a group from Duchy College were doing pre-army training carrying the dummy for four kilometres on a stretcher.

We could just make out Roadford Reservoir nine miles away through the haze.

Down from here to and Western Mill Tor (194) Little Tor (195)

Western Mill Tor,

Looking back to Yes Tor...

...and across East Mill Tor to Steeperton Tor

Finally down again to Rowtor (196)

with Terry, Rosemary, Roger, Carol, and Charlie
