Wednesday 8th August Lane End

Just four of us for the evening walk.  We started in bright sunshine.

Looking back at Higher Willsworthy farm and with the low sunlight we could see several layers of fortifications rising up between the River Tavy and the farm.

To the west was a bonfire and the smoke drifted along the top of the valley.

There was a heavier layer of cloud towards the sun.

Hare Tor was covered in cloud but this is Dartmoor where you can never be surprised by the variety and changeability of the weather.

There was no view from the top when we took our break...

...but as we came down lower we left the cloud on top behind.

Our route was across White Hill and past some of the many rifle ranges - by now it was starting to get dark.

With torches on for the end of the walk and a reminder that the lighter evenings are getting shorter.  The appointed pub was the Elephants Nest but by 22:10 this had closed so we continued to the Mary Tavy Inn. With Tom, Mike and Anne
