Tuesday 4th August Fur Tor

No firing on the ranges in August so an opportunity for a longer walk to Fur Tor -  the 'Queen of Tors'. Dull and overcast with a shower and splashes of sunshine.

Heading up to Ger Tor.

Stormy skies across the firing ranges at Willsworthy.

On Ger Tor looking across to Tavy Cleave Tors and with Fur Tor in the far distance.

The other way with Great Mis Tor in the distance.

On Tavy Cleave Tors looking down into the Cleave

Just above the crossing at Deadlake Foot and looking back down Tavy Cleave.

A stop on Amicombe Hill for coffe.

Down to the River Tavy with Fur Tor in the distance.

Up to the top of Fur Tor for lunch with Hare Tor in the distance. Fur Tor is one of the most impressive tors on the moor with a number of large granite stacks.

Looking north. One of the most remote places on Dartmoor but, of course, there was another group having lunch here!

We headed south west across Fur Tor brook and this is the view north with High Willhays in the very far distance.

To this remote flagpole which stands on its own - normally they are on top of a tor. From here there is a track of sorts used by the quad bikes to get to the flagpole to erect the flag. The track leads back to Bagga Tor.

Ponies hoping we might feed them.

We took a direct route over Standon Hill....

.... and down the steep bit to cross the river Tavy.

A most enjoyable walk with Jon, Stella, Ann, and Laura.
